WHERE IS GOD WHEN I NEED HIM?
Psalms 46:1
By Preacher James Tyson

Where is God when I need Him is perhaps the most asked question we as ministers of the gospel are faced with! It looks like God is a million miles away. I can't seem to get an answer from God when I need it. These are all very common thoughts by most Christians. Let me be quite frank with you before we go any farther. God doesn't respond to non-christian prayers except for one category and that is , "God be merciful to me a sinner and save me for Jesus sake". Until that is done in the life of a person, you might as well be quoting a line from shakespeare, "O' ROMEO where art thou" rather than asking where God is.

1- GOD IS THERE TO HELP WITH LIFE'S PROBLEMS.
Psalms 46:1- "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble".

With that said, let us proceed to the life of the Christian where there are at least four things we think we are entitled to but sometimes get ahead of God on.

(1)- We want immediate response to prayer.

(2)- We want direct Divine intervention for life's problems.

(3)- We want a loud voice from heaven giving directions.

(4)- We want smooth sailing all the way through life.

Most Christians at times have frustration with God's answer to prayer and the time frame in which He answers them. We Christians sometimes feel abandoned by The Almighty when things do not materialize as we think they should but let me say at this point that "GOD ALWAYS HEARS AND ANSWERS THE PRAYERS OF HIS CHILDREN". Maybe not in the time frame we expect and not always in the manner we want but God hears our prayers and responds in an appropriate manner.

2- GOD IS AWARE OF OUR NEEDS.
Isaiah 59:1- "Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear". God knows a sinners need for salvation or a prayer request from the believer. God will never have to apologize for not hearing us!

3- GOD IS ALWAYS ON OUR SIDE.
Galatians 6:9-
"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." The child of God is admonished to press on for the mark of the prize of the high calling of God. We can't give up on life no matter how hard the battle becomes. If we remain faithful, God will bring us through every trial.

The Greek word for REAP is Ther-id'-zo which means: To bring in a harvest. Don't you think for a moment that God is sitting idly by and unaware of your labor for Him and he knows your needs even before you ask!
Matthew 6:8- "Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him".

GOD ANSWERS PRAYER IN THREE WAYS:
# 1- YES
# 2- NO

# 3- NOT RIGHT NOW.

1- Something that is expedient the answer is YES.

2- Something that is not good for us the answer is NO.

3- When the timing is off the answer is WAIT.

A Christian's prayers are like a road to Heaven and often run into a roadblock because of unconfessed sin.

The prayer road has a delivery system consisting of all three persons of The Godhead. God is a tri-partite being, The Holy Spirit, Jesus and The Heavenly Father. This being so, The Holy Spirit delivers prayer through the shed blood of Jesus to The Heavenly Father.

A roadblock is set up when fellowship is broken and the Holy Spirit is grieved because of sin or disobedience to God's word.

Many Christians seem to think that since their sins are under the blood of Christ, prayer is an open road to the Heavenly Father but it is not so! Many people  are going to heaven Yes but their lives are a miserable experience until they are in line with the scriptures.

Things that hinder Christian prayer:

1- Incompatible Marriage relationships.
1-Peter 3:7- "Being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered ".
I-Peter 3:5- "For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:"

(1)- Wives who refuse to be in subjection to their husbands.
This is a subject that Pastors have just about quite preaching on ! A family relationship where wives who profess Christ refuse to even discuss a role of subjection. It is no wonder that we have so many spiritless church members! God can not bless sin and until the marriage relationship is in line with his word, God isn't going to bless that family as he would if everything was in it's proper place.

(a)- THE WIVES ROLE.
1-
Peter 3:6- "Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement."

(b)- THE HUSBANDS ROLE.
1-Peter 3:7-
"Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge,
giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered."

(2)-
Husbands who abuse their wives or children!
Husbands will answer to God for abuse at the Judgment seat of Christ and have a non-productive prayer life here on earth. Husbands are commanded to Love their Wives as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for it! Fathers are commanded to provoke not their children to wrath. (See Colossians chapter three).

2- Inconsistent Prayer life.
James 4:2
-
"Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not." If you don't have a prayer life don't expect God to pour out his blessings!

The bible tells us in Philippians 4:6- "In everything with supplication, prayer and thanksgiving; let your request be made known to God".

(1)- WHAT SHOULD WE PRAY FOR?
      The answer is everything.

(2)- HOW SHOULD WE PRAY?
The answer is with supplication and thanksgiving.

3- Inordinate desires.
James 4:3-
"Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."
If you ask God to give you money to buy alcohol or cigarettes or drugs; you might as well forget it, It isn't going to happen!
Don't expect God to bless your sinful life style by opening heavens treasure house to your lust and greed.

Someone recently ask me, how long God was going to let them live with the consequences of past sins?

My reply was, how long did you remain in sin as a Christian ? The blood of Jesus always cleanses from the penalty of sin but it doesn't always eliminate the consequences of sin and that might very well follow a Christian to the grave.

For instance; A life of alcohol consumption has taken it's toll on the internal organs of one's body and likely pain and suffering will follow all the days of that persons life. They are SAVED but SORRY they didn't obey the Lord sooner. Secondly, a Christian marries an unsaved person who drags them into every worldly practice imaginable which grieves the Spirit of God within and makes life miserable for that person. God gave us instructions from His Word for a purpose! It was placed there to keep His children from suffering the consequences of sin! God always has our best in mind.

CHRISTIAN PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED BY:

1
- ASKING IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD'S WILL.
THIS BRINGS BLESSINGS EVEN IN TIMES OF TURMOIL.

His word tells us if we being evil know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more will the heavenly Father give good things to them that ask Him. Jesus asks us in Mat. 7:9- "Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?"

Luke 11:11- "If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent"?

2- REMEMBERING THAT WE ARE NOT FORSAKEN.
If you begin to think you are forsaken when you need God the most, take a look at how our Lord was forsaken in his most agonizing trial just before He laid down His life for our sins. Please remember what His Disciples and friends did when the going got tough although God has not abandoned us.

OUR LORD WAS FORSAKEN BY HIS FOLLOWERS BUT WE ARE NOT LEFT ALONE!

(1)- In Mark 14:50- "They fled".

(2)- In Matt. 26:56- "They all forsook Him and fled".

(3)- In John 6:67- "Left by all but the twelve".

3- TRUSTING IN GOD'S PROMISES.
Hebrews 13:5- "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee".

I suppose I have been at most of the four categories I mentioned at the beginning of the message but trials and experience teaches us to trust the Lord.

1- wanting immediate response to prayer. (I have been there).
2- wanting divine intervention for my needs. (I have been there).
3- wanting a voice from God to give directions. (I have been there).
4- wanting smooth sailing through life. (I have been there).

(1)- Trials and troubles equal experience that makes for maturity in Christ.
When my family and I first left for the mission field of Alaska back in 1980, we were supported through a mission board and received our finances once a month as it was sent in by individual Churches and we had a converted school bus that we took with us because of the scarcity of housing in the islands of southeast Alaska . We also had a van that we used for transportation and we took enough money to get us through Canada and to the coast of British Columbia where we intended to catch the Alaska marine highway system Ferry in order to sail on up the inside passage to the islands of southeast Alaska. Anyway, just after entering Canada I called the western union to be sure they had an office at Prince Rupert, B.C. so we could have our next support money wired there in order to have the finances to pay for the passage on the Ferry. It was quite expensive to put a long bus and a van on the Ferry as well as my wife and I and five children so we needed to be sure we would have the money to complete the journey when we arrived at the ferry terminal. Anyway after arriving at Prince Rupert I found the place where the western union was supposed to be located and saw a sign on the door that read, "Closed Permanently". You can imagine what thoughts rushed through our minds. What were we going to do ? Where was God at a time like this ? I thought His word said, He would never leave or forsake us. To sum up the story, we went over to the Ferry terminal and inquired about passage and how much it would cost to sail to Wrangell, Alaska. To my surprise, the terminal operator ask if I was James Tyson and I said that I was. He then said, "Your tickets are already paid for". God in that still small voice of His Holy Spirit spoke to me and said something like this, "My son I was here before you arrived. I knew your needs and took care of them". My how God has taught us the realistic principals of His holy Word through many experiences in life and He will do the same for every child of His if you will only trust Him with unwavering faith!

(2)- God is there through the storms of life.
He did say; I will be with you through all the storms of life, like the time Jesus calmed the raging sea with the disciples about to perish, He said,
"PEACE BE STILL" and the sea ceased it's raging and the waters were calm for the men on board. It looked hopeless for the people on board but Jesus was in their midst and that makes all the difference in the world!

(3)- Godly living brings persecution from the world.
As a child of God We Need not expect smooth sailing through every journey.
2-Timothy 3:12- "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution."
David said in Psalms 143:3-
"For the enemy hath persecuted my soul"; and I can testify to that statement because every demonic spirit on earth hates the preaching of the Gospel. I could go through a long dissertation of how that first ministry at Wrangell, Alaska and my Pastoring the Bible Baptist Church there brought out evil workers who opposed the ministry but I can truthfully say that God brought us through all the trials and tribulations which I believe now; were testings and experiences that have made us stronger in the faith.

CONCLUSION:

(1)- PERSECUTIONS ARE EXPECTED IN THE LIVES OF CHRISTIANS.
In John 15:20- Jesus said,
"If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you". In 1-Cor. 4:12- "And labor, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:"

(2)- ENDURING PERSECUTIONS BRINGS BLESSING.
2 Timothy 2:3- "Therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ".
Jesus said in Mat 5:11, "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake."
Mat 5:12- "Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you".

(3)- RIGHT ATTITUDES HELP GET PRAYERS ANSWERED.
Looking at all this, God said in His word, "Psalms 46:1- "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." and again His word tells us in Psalms 34:7,- "The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them."  What more can we ask for! A loving God who is always present to help his children and he sends an angel to protect us as we journey along life's pathway. That thought brings me to shouting ground every time I think of How good God is!

Do you know the Lord as your personal Saviour ? Are you born again ? Jesus told Nicodemus in John chapter three that he MUST BE BORN AGAIN! If you haven't been born again, please ask Him to forgive your sins and to come into your heart to live forever and he will add your name to the Book of life in heaven. You will forever be his child and prayer will be your privilege. Ask in faith and walk in obedience to his word and he will make your life a little like heaven on earth.
