Ezra 7:28

Ezra 7:28- "And I was strengthened as the hand of the Lord my God was upon me".
Psalms 46:1- "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble".

The message today comes from the book of Ezra in the Old Testament. Ezra was God's anointed who was about to go into battle with the enemies of the land where he lived and he mentioned three things that he would need before attempting to fight the battle in Ezra chapter 7 and verse 28. The Name EZRA means HELP and it is only through God's help that we can maintain the good fight of faith in this earthly life. Ezra's ministry deals with a feeble remnant that had a heart for God while the masses remained in Babylonia and Assyria where they were prospering in a worldly sense. How much like the atmosphere of our day where people are so indulged in satisfying the flesh and forgetting the God that prospered them!

1- Three things Ezra Needed.
Things he Needed before going into battle.

1- God's mercy.
Ezra 7:28- "And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the kings princes",

2- God's unseen hand to strengthen.
Ezra 7:28- "and I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my GOD was upon me",

3- Chief men to go with him into battle.
Ezra 7:28- "and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me".
When God saves a person and that person begins to serve the Lord, we need to realize that it is the Lord's battle and we are not alone in it!  Many disappointments come when a Man of God thinks that he can do it alone or when Church members will not follow the pastor when the battles are raging.
The hand of the Lord is always present to strengthen us in our daily battles but there
are moments of fear in the lives of GOD'S children and we sometimes wonder if God is really there to protect us when evil comes against us. I want to try by the grace of God in this sermon; to show how His hand never leaves us unprotected! If it were so, the devil would destroy us all!

7- Things New Testament Christians need to know.
Scripture reveals to us God's unseen hand in the life of christians as we face our daily battles.
John 10:27-28-
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck they out of my hand".

1-They are in God's hand.
John 10:27- "Neither shall any man pluck them out
of my hand".

2- Sheep hear God's voice.
John 10:27- "My sheep hear my voice".

I wonder if you hear him today?

3- Jesus knows his sheep.
John 10:27- "I know them".

I wonder if Jesus knows you today!

4- Sheep follow Jesus.
John 10:27- "they follow me".
I wonder; are you following Christ today?

5- Sheep have eternal life.
John 10:28-
"I give unto them eternal life"

Do you know beyond a shadow of doubt that you are saved today?
Are you resting in God's promise of eternal security?

6- Sheep never perish.
John 10:28-
"They shall never perish".

How long is never?

7- Sheep are not alone in life.

Consecrated Christians follow in fellowship.
1 John 1:7- "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin".
Cold and Corrupt Christians are like the unsaved and often make their way in rebellion. The hand of God is against those who refuse to serve Him.
1 Samuel 12:15- "But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandments of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers".

Those who have fear of losing their salvation need to get it out of your mind and out of your vocabulary because when God saves you by his grace; it can never happen! You are his child and He never loses what belongs to him! You are in his hands forever and eternally secure!
Isaiah 49:16- "Behold I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me".

Those who are constantly frightened about being overtaken by evil need to place your every care upon the Lord because he cares for you. 1-Peter 5:7- "Casting all your care upon Him: for He careth for you" and he will never allow the devil or his demons to harm you as long as you are walking in fellowship with him. God's word tells us in James 4:7-8- "if we draw nigh unto God and He will draw nigh unto us; and if we resist the devil he will flee from us".

I am often reminded of the scripture in Psalms 37:7- "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them".

Encampeth is the Hebrew word Khaw-naw'-  which means to pitch a tent and dwell there. I don't know about you but I like that! God has a tent pitched and dwells about us. The Hebrew word for About is Saw-beeb which means as the dial of a compass. That excites me even more for there is on a compass dial: North, South, East and West! Praise the Lord! We are protected from all positions of the compass!

I love the words to that old Gospel song: "THE UNSEEN HAND".

There is an unseen hand to me,
That leads through wave I cannot see.
While going through this world of woe,
This hand still leads me as I go.

I'M trusting to, the unseen hand,
That guides me through this weary land.
When some sweet day I'll reach that strand.
Still guided by the unseen hand.

This hand has led through drear,
And while it leads I have no fear.
I know t'will lead, me to that home,
Where sin nor sorrow ere can come.

I long to see, my Saviours face,
And sing the story saved by grace.
And there upon that golden strand,
I'll praise him for his guiding hand.

If you want God's hand to work in your favor but you have never accepted Christ as the only substitute for your sins and you have never ask Him to forgive you and to come into your heart to live forever; you need to start by making Him your Saviour and Lord! There are no sins He can not forgive! There is not a problem God can not handle! There is not an enemy He can not protect us from! There are no mountains He can not help us climb! There is no impediment that He can not see us through! His word in Isaiah 53 tells us; with His stripes we are healed! Let us by His grace recognize God for who He is and totally rely on Him for our every need.
