Luke 13:3

There is a movement today along with a web sight that is titled, "Repentance Blacklist" where they list names of prominent Pastors and Preachers whose message declares that a person has to repent of their sins in order to go to heaven. The movement was started by a popular easy-believism preacher with a rather large following who believe that repentance is not necessary in order to be saved and to go to heaven. They go even farther by stating that Repentance is equal to works for salvation. I don't see how these people could possibly know the Lord in the free pardon of sin and have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to lead them into spiritual truth while making a declaration about repentance being equal to works for salvation.

Jesus said in Luke 13:3- "I tell you, nay; but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish".

The doctrine of Soteriology, (Salvation) demands Repentance.
A Greek word study from Luke 13:3 proves it.

(1)- Nay is the Greek word NAY-OO-KHEE - by no means not at all.

(2)- Except is the Greek word EH-AN'-MAY- if not, unless.

(3)- Repent is the Greek word MET-AN-O-EH'-TO - to heartily abhor one's past sins.

(4)- Shall is the Greek word AP-OL'-LOO-MEE - to declare that one must be put to death; metaphor: to devote to or give over to eternal misery in hell.

(5)- All is the Greek word PAS - everyone individually.

(6)- Likewise is the Greek word LO-SOW'-TOCE - after the same manner.

(7)- Perish is the Greek word AP-OI'-LOO-MER - the same word used for (shall)- Eternal misery in hell.

This verse is literally saying: By no means at all unless one heartily abhors past sins, a declaration of death and eternal misery in hell is for everyone individually.

If you abhor your sins, you have a repentant heart! If you don't abhor your sins you are on a collision course with hell!

Luke 5:32- "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance".

The word sinners in this verse is the Greek word ham-ar-to-los' - all wicked men.

The word Repentance is the Greek word met-an'-oy-ah - one who changes his mind of a purpose he has formed.

Before I was saved, my purpose in life was to glorify the flesh but when those two Baptist preachers came over to the back side of a field where I was clearing some land and simply invited me to church, I accepted the offer and sat under the preaching of God's word as the Holy Spirit brought conviction to my sinful heart. At home I repented of my sin and ask the Lord to be merciful to me a sinner and to save me for Jesus sake. Then back in church at the invitation, I went forward and confessed my belief in Christ as the only hope of eternal life before the congregation and as a testimony of that new found repentance and faith in Christ as Lord, I was baptized. That was 35 years ago and it is still good today! My purpose in life has been changed since that conversion experience to serving the Lord. That is what repentance is all about! Getting the old sinful nature changed to a Spirit led nature.

2 Corinthians 5:17 verifies that. "Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new".

Salvation is a process of events even though they may be only seconds apart.
(1)- It takes the word of God. 1 Corinthians 1:21-
"It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe".

(2)- It takes Holy Spirit conviction. Jesus speaking of the Holy Spirit said in,
John 16:8- "And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin,"
The greek word for reprove is el-eng'-kho which means Convict.

(3)- It takes Repentance. Acts 3:19-
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out".
The Greek word for converted is ep-ee-stref'-o which means to turn to with implication of turning to God from sin.

(4)- It takes Believing faith. Romans 10:9-
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
The Greek word for believe is pis-yoo'-o which means to commit one's trust to.

(5)- It takes asking for it. Romans 10:17-
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved".
The Greek word for call upon is ep-ee-kal-eh'-om-ahee which means to appeal unto.

These Repentance "Black List" people might as well add me to their list because God never lied and his word is very plain about having a repentant heart as a prerequisite to salvation. If Repentance was works as they imply, so is Believing and asking for God's mercy and Grace! Preachers please wake up before it is too late and get your heart right with the Lord. You are sending people to hell with your false gospel and if you really believe what you are telling people, you are hell bound yourself!

(1)- God ordained it.
2 Peter 3:9- "The Lord is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance".
(2)- Angels rejoice over it.
Luke 15:7- "I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance".

I couldn't believe my eyes when I came across the web sight condemning us brethren who proclaim that God expects sinners to repent of their sins in order to go to heaven. The easy-believism movement has just about destroyed the old time movement where preachers like Jonathan Edwards preached his sermon, "Sinners in the hands of an angry God" and the entire town came to their knees with repentant hearts while closing down houses of ill repute and closing the liquor parlors all over town. Husbands made new commitments to be faithful to their wives and wives vowed to be in subjection to husbands. Children made vows to honor father and mother and homes were transformed into what God wanted them to be. When the easy-believism bunch started the numbers game and no longer preached repentance is necessary for salvation, our country lost some hard earned ground that was established by hard preaching men of God!
Unless we have a major turning back to preaching God's word as it is to sinners as they are, we have had it!
