The Tysons', Missionary Evangelist
Helping struggling churches in remote areas
Urging missionaries and churches to stand fast in the Last Days
Luke 11:33
By Preacher James Tyson

This sermon is about christians having a testimony that the world can recognize as being different! Jesus said in Matthew 5:14- "Ye are the light of the world". If the lost world doesn't see Christ in us; they will never get the message!

Luke 11:33-
"No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light."

Matthew 5:15- "Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house."

Matthew 5:16- "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Christian people are supposed to be Gods representatives here on planet earth in order to reveal the blessed hope of salvation to those who do not know Him. lt saddens me however to see how careless so many professing Christians live their lives. Lost people who see their lifestyle on a day by day basis are not impressed with Christianity and I have heard many say, "If this is what a Christian is supposed to be like; I want nothing to do with it". Worldly Christians bring reproach upon the name of Christ. You can't be a soul winner if you live just like the world and that is what God's word commands his children to be different from. The sin of commission is when you continually practice doing something that is wrong!

Keep your light from being dim by Separation from worldiness.
2-Corinthians 6:17-
"Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you."

Christians who use profanity make people wonder what God saved you from.
Colossians 4:6- "Let your speech be always with grace seasoned with salt".

Sanctification means being set apart. Christians who dress in scarcely clad bodies advertise that they are just like the
rest of the world. Romans 12:2- "present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto the Lord which is your reasonable service And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God".

(A)- Christians who smoke tobacco, chew tobacco or dip tobacco make their association with other people known as one who didn't make many life style changes after they were saved when they were supposed to be walking in newness of life. 2 Cor. 5:17- "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new".

(B)- Christians  who sit in front of the TV and watch a ball game with a beer in hand, had just as well confess that their testimony has no meaning and they could care less. I want to say at this point that if you are born again; you are in line for the chastening hand of God if you do these things.

God expects christians to act like christians.
Hebrews 6:9- "But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation".

God chastens dim lighted christians who disobey him.
Hebrews 12:6-
"For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth."
Many wonder why the Lord never seems to bless them. God can not put his stamp of approval on sin and the blessings will never come until their lives are cleaned up.

The word Omission means something one leaves off. Something you should have done but you didn't. You say, Preacher where or when did God say it was a sin to leave off doing good? 1 am glad that you asked because I am going to tell you.

Matthew 5:14- "Ye are the light of the world, a city that is set on a hill cannot be hid".
James 4:17-
"Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."
(1)- Failure to witness.
How many times has the Holy Spirit impressed you to witness to someone about
God's saving grace and you were too embarrassed to tell them?

(2)- Failure to work.
How often has God impressed you to help someone with some small aspect of your ability and you didn't seem to have the time?

(3)- Failure to visit.
A simple visit to an elderly person who is lonely and shut in could be one of the greatest gifts you could give.

(4)- Failure to minister.
A visit to a hospital room where someone is suffering could be that thing that could make an everlasting difference in that person's life, not to mention the relatives who might be present, could see that your love for God is real.

(5)- Failure to provide.
A basket of food could be the thing that opens a person's heart to the Lord. Small things often are that which is needed to make others know who you are as a child of God. A word of prayer could be the most effective thing you could do to bring a person to a relationship with the Lord or make them know God still has people who really care.

To summarize the message; Let us keep our lights shining so others can see Christ through us and not hide it under a bushel. God will return the blessings many times over on our behalf if we do this.

(1)- Demonstrating love exalts Christ.
Philippians 2:15- "That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world".

(2)- Demonstrating compassion brings souls to the Saviour.
Daniel 12:3-
"And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever."

(1)- If you have never been saved yourself;
you need to come to Jesus with a repentant heart, asking Him to forgive you and to come into your heart to be your personal Saviour!

(2)- If you are saved but out of fellowship with the Lord,
you need to place everything on the altar and follow Christ.
I John 1:7- "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin".  If you know for certain that you are a born again believer; you need to sanctify your life and clean up the mess you have made of it and determine to serve the Lord from this day forward ! So, Keep your lights shining and the Gospel fires burning in your heart; so that others might see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.
