ECCLESIASTICAL GIFTS FOR THE CHURCH AGE
By Preacher James Tyson
Ephesians 4:11

Concerning  spiritual gifts for the body of Christ: There are 4 offices of distinction chosen not by man but by God. Eph 4:11- "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;"

1- APOSTLES.

Christ himself set up the ministry of Apostles during his earthly ministry which contained 12 men, (No Women). That office had no additional members added after the return of Christ to Heaven. There are those who falsely believe in apostolic succession and practice such in our day but scripture does not vindicate that practice. There are no divine healers in the dispensation of grace and healing for the human body is according to the book of James chapter five; Let him Pray and Call for the elders of the church to pray and to anoint with oil and the prayer of faith shall save the sick. There are no gifts for preachers to raise the dead as did the Apostles but many modern movements seem to think they have the right to that gift. There are no directives  for the handling of snakes or drinking deadly poison to supposedly show spirituality.
There are no instructions for the new testament church to speak in some gibberish they call unknown tongues. There are no directives for some preacher to hit someone in the forehead and "Slay" them in the spirit. Jesus said if the blind lead the blind, they both will fall into the ditch. Many people are on the road to hell without Christ and we pray that they will wake up before it is too late.

2
- PROPHETS.
There are two divisions in the ministry of prophets.

(1)- Old testament prophets were Procurers of divine inspiration.
In old time God spake through the prophets as they were moved by The Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21- "For the prophecy came not  in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost".

(2)- New testament prophets are Proclaimers of Divine inspiration.
They do not get any new revelation from God apart from His written Word. They could be Pastors or Missionaries. In the pastoral epistles Timothy is instructed to, "Preach the word" being instant in season and out of season. It is God's written word with no new or added revelation for the church age.

3- EVANGELIST.
This office would be what modern day Christians call Missionaries and the word literally means, those who go about evangelizing. Eph. 4:11.

4- PASTORS and TEACHERS
.

Please notice this office contains both the office of Pastor and Teacher. Teaching is not a separate office in the body of Christ and the king James translators properly defined it by using the conjunction "and" between Pastors and Teachers which implies it is part of the same office of distinction. Please don't get angry at me before you hear what God has to say about it. There is nothing wrong with a Pastor choosing qualified people to teach groups of special category people as the need arises but to say you are called to teach and you are not a Pastor is just biblically wrong.

These offices were all set up after the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ and His ascension to the right hand of the Heavenly Father with one exception and that being the Apostles who lived out their lives setting up the New testament church as the Holy Spirit gave them instruction with the Apostle Paul being set aside by God to go to the gentile world and establish new testament churches as he went.

Ephesians 4:8-10- "Wherefore he sayeth, when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, [literally earthly bodies] that he might fill all things."

PASTORS AND TEACHERS WERE GOD'S GIFT TO THE CHURCH. THE SETTING UP OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH BEGAN WITH A TRANSITION PERIOD FROM THE DISPENSATION OF LAW TO THE DISPENSATION OF GRACE WHICH BROUGHT ABOUT SEVERAL UNUSUAL MIRACLES TO IDENTIFY A CHANGE WAS BEING MADE.

Many of the transition era saints had a problem changing over to The Dispensation of GRACE because they had become bogged down in the secular practices as described in The Law Of Moses and even today there are those who Contend that their faith depends on the keeping of The Old Testament Law with it's handwriting of ordinances that were never meant to save but to show sinful man that he was a miserable failure and could never keep the commandments of a Just God. Mankind fell short in previous dispensations just as surely as every person is doing today. The book of Hebrews tells us these old testament sacrifices, "Could never take away sin". Hebrews 10:4.

(1)- THE METHOD OF ATONEMENT WAS CHANGED.
The method was changed from Judaism to Grace.
Eph. 2:8-9- "For by grace are you saved, through faith , not of works lest any man should boast."

(2)- THE MESSAGE WAS CHANGED.
The message was changed from legalism to Repentance.
In first Timothy 1:1-11- Legalism is called, "Unsound Doctrine ".

(A)- Jesus Christ brought hope based on his righteousness.
I-Tim.1:1-
"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;" Jesus Christ is our only hope!

(B)- The Law brought condemnation based on our righteousness.
I-Tim.1:8-
"But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; I-Tim. 1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,"
I-Tim.1:10- "For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;"
(C)- The gospel brought the gentile world along with the Jews; hope of eternal life.
I-Tim.1:11-
"According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

THE OLD TESTAMENT ENDS AND NEW TESTAMENT GRACE BEGINS AT MATTHEW chapter 27 with many of the Old Testament saints coming out of their graves and walking the streets of Jerusalem while appearing to many. This is where Paradise below changed to heaven above for the redeemed. You talk about a riot, I could imagine how fast most modern day people would be getting out of town if that happened today. Matthew 27:51-54 signifies the end of the dispensation of law.
(D)- God made a direct way for mankind through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
The Veil in the temple was rent from top to bottom, the barrier that separated man from God was removed at Calvary. We can now boldly approach the throne of grace and seek grace for help in time of need.
Mat. 27:51-
"And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;"

(E)- Christ blood of redemption brought resurrection and acceptance for believers.
The Lamb of God's blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat in heaven in order for the heavenly Father to accept sinners as justified.
Mat. 27:52-
"And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,"
Mat. 27:5- "And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many."

I agree with Scofield's notes about the incident which states, "There is no inferred scripture to indicate these saints returned to the graves but were. "The spirits of just men made perfect". Heb.12:23- "To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect," and were taken from paradise below and went with Jesus into Heaven as described in Eph. 4:8-10.

(F)- Paradise below changed to heaven above.
Eph. 4:9-
"Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?"
Eph.4:10- "He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things."
With all that said and the dispensation of Law changed to the dispensation of the Grace of God; we all need to make certain that we are born again and know Jesus Christ in the free pardon of sin. You can make sure of that today by repenting of your sin and asking Christ into your heart to live forever. Romans 10:9-13. I believe God gives every person ample opportunity to be saved and they will give an account for rejecting The Saviour or accepting Him as their only hope of eternal life.

THE ONLY DISPENSATION OF GRACE WAY TO BE SAVED REQUIRES THREE THINGS.

(1)- Romans 10:9-
Repentance.
Revealed by confession.

(2)- Romans 10:9-
Believe.
From the heart that Jesus died for your sins and rose again.

(3)- Romans 10:13-
Ask for it.

Rom.10:9- "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Rom.10:10- "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Rom.10:11- "For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed".
Rom.10:12- "For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Rom.10:13- "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

CONCLUSION:

There are four Ecclesiastical offices for the church age:
(1)- Apostles.
(2)- Prophets.
(3)- Evangelist (Missionaries).
(4)- Pastors who are Teachers.

There is only one way to heaven and that is by faith in the shed blood of Calvary's Lamb. Acts 4:12.

Where are you today? Are your sins under the blood of Christ? Are you sure that you would go to heaven if you died today? If not you need to make the choice while you are thinking about it, Ask God to be merciful unto you a sinner and forgive your sin for Jesus sake. After that, invite Christ into your heart to live forever! Then you need to seek out a biblically sound church where you can follow the Lord in believers baptism as you grow in grace and knowledge by studying his word.
