Revelation 21:27

Everyone seems to want to know what route they need to take to enter into eternal life. I am answering those questions in this sermon. A Doorway and a Gateway in scripture are synomonous. They both mean the same! In the twenty first and twenty second chapters of the book of Revelation, God gives us an insight into the Holy City; New Jerusalem where only those who have been purchased by the sinless blood of Jesus Christ, will be allowed to enter and Jesus describes Himself as the "Door" to eternal life in John chapter 10.

(1)- Only the redeemed can enter that gate into Heaven.
Revelation 21:27- "And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie; but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life".
It has always been and always will be God's way or nothing. Some people seem to think that it doesn't matter what course they take as long as they are sincere but I would remind you that you can be sincerely wrong and that will be devastating! Those who think that a loving God would never send a person to hell are deceived because God is not the one who sends them to hell! God loved them so much that He sent His own Son to pay their sin debt. Each person therefore has to accept God's free gift by placing their sins under the blood of Christ with a repentant heart in order to have their names written in the Book of life in heaven.

1 Corinthians 1:21- "God chose by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe".
Revelation 22:14- "Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city".

Jesus said in John 10:9- "I am the door by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved". Again in the book of Acts 4:12 we read: "Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved".
Friend, if your sins are not forgiven through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ; you can not and will not enter that door!

Lost people are blocked from entering the doorway into heaven until they have a born again experience.
Jesus tells us in John 10:1- "Verily, verily I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber". We all know that a thief is not welcome in our houses and God is no different. What this scripture is trying to tell us; if it were possible to get to heaven some other way, God would not allow them to abide there.

"The Pearly Gates" are often described as meaning an easy access into Heaven. I was visiting the local hospital recently and a man ask me what was the meaning of, "Pearly Gates" and my reply was that it is Jewish terminology relating to the 12 gates into the City of Jerusalem. Theologians have used it synomonously with salvation which can be confusing and especially to a lost person who is asking how to enter those gates. I think we need to be careful when we use methaphors to try and give a lost person a ray of hope without making them aware of the methods of entering into God's grace! I would remind you that everyone is not going to march up to heaven's door and ask Gabriel to open the door while trying to explain how good they have been, it just isn't going to happen that way!

Revelation 21:15 tells us, "the gates of heaven are not closed by day and there is no night there". This of course is speaking of the raptured Saints having access to God's grace and is a picture of Christ priestly work. Jesus said in John 10:9- "I am the door by me if any man enter in he shall be saved...." This part of the verse represents salvation and the rest of the verse has to do with the child of God having access to God's physical blessings. "They shall go in and out and find pasture". We as God's children have a lot of good things awaiting us and as the song so aptly states; "This old world is not my home, I am just passing through".

Revealed truth from prophesy often requires study to unlock the meaning. Revelation 21:21- "And the twelve gates were twelve pearls"; speaking of the heavenly city New Jerusalem which is going to come down from God out of heaven after the thousand year millennium reign of Christ but In order for us to fully understand the meaning of these two chapters, we need to do a systematic study to determine what is being said and to whom it is speaking. There are seven groups of twelve things mentioned in Revelation chapter 21:

1- 12 Gates: Revelation 21:12

2- 12 Angles: Revelation 21:12

3- 12 Tribes of the Children of Israel: Revelation 21:12

4- 12 Foundations of the city walls: Revelation 21:14

5- 12 Apostles: Revelation 21:14

6- 12 Precious stones: Revelation 21:19-20

7- 12 Pearly Gates: Revelation 21:21

(1)- There are two called out assemblies in the economy of God: Israel and the Church.
They are both represented here in the book of Revelation with the twelve Tribes representing Israel and the twelve Apostles representing the Bride of Christ, (The Church).
(2)- The twelve foundations represent the building blocks of Faith. Scripture tells us in Hebrews 11:9- "For he (Abraham) looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God".
(3)- The pearly Gates represent the suffering of Christ to form His Bride, even as an oyster suffers with a grain of sand that makes a pearl.

(4)- The twelve Angels represent the messengers who delivered God's word.

(5)- The four square city of twelve gates are made up of the South, North, East and West three gates which represent an avenue to God from the four corners of the earth. There are those who know the Lord in the free pardon of sin from every kindred, nation and tongue! The Bible declares in Titus 2:11- "The grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared unto all men". Literally on behalf of all mankind. I am so glad that God made a way through His Son for us Gentile Dogs to be grafted in!

Friend, if you don't know the Lord in the free pardon of sin; Jesus is the only Gate or doorway into heaven. You need to repent of your sin and ask him to forgive you and to come into your heart today! Ask Him to help you to join fellowship with a Bible believing congregation and follow the Lord in believers baptism. You will then have an opportunity to grow in grace as you study His word.
