The Tysons', Missionary Evangelist
Helping struggling churches in remote areas
Urging missionaries and churches to stand fast in the Last Days
Jude 1:22

The message today is from the New Testament book of Jude which has only  one chapter with our text found in Jude 1:22- "And of some have compassion, making a difference". Compassion means you are watching out for the other person and you make every effort to bring them to Christ but first of all you need make sure a difference has been made in your life unless you depart this life without Christ yourself!

1- Choosing Christ makes an eternal difference.
Jude 1:5- "I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterwards destroyed them that believed not".
God gave this scripture to remind us that there is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun!
Egypt in scripture is a type of the world and sin and you can either leave Egypt or die in unbelief and wind up in hell! There is no middle ground and God will not excuse your sin and somehow let you into heaven and even if he allowed you in; you would be the most miserable person the world has ever known! You need to become a born again child of God which will make a difference in where you are going when you die and your attitude about it in this life!

2- Serving the Lord makes a difference.
(1)- There is a Crown of Life for Enduring testing. James 1:12.
(2)- There is an Incorruptible Crown for keeping your body under subjection. I Cor. 9:25.
(3)- There is a Crown of glory for faithfulness in the ministry. I Peter 5:24.

(4)- There is a Crown of rejoicing for Soul winning. I Thessalonians 2:19.
(5)- There is a Crown of righteousness for telling of Christ second coming. 2 Timothy 4:8.

There are crowns to be won by christians, based on how they lived and served God!
Jesus gave us a good illustration about this in the story of Mary and Martha. One chose to worship the Lord and the other was cumbered about with the cares of carnal things. Mary washed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair which was acknowledging his death, burial and resurrection. Mary also heard his word and received his word which will get any old sinner saved! Those whose only concern is about matters pertaining to this earthly life will be rejected by the Lord just like Martha was!

Luke 10:38-42- "Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house". Verse 39- "And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus feet, and heard his word". Verse 40- "Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me". Verse 41- "And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, the art careful and troubled about many things". Verse 42- "But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her".
What about you? Are you going to give attention to serving the Lord like Mary or
are you like Martha who was so wrapped
up in worldly things that you don't have time for the Lord?

3- Soul winning makes a difference.
Those who are saved will thank you throughout eternity!

Proverbs 11:30- "He that winneth souls is wise".
(1)- Life shouldn't be all about one's self!

Jude 1:22-"And of some have compassion, making a difference". The Greek word for compassion is el-eh-eh’-o which means to help the afflicted, to bring help to the wretched. To execute mercy. When my family and I were in Bible College in South Carolina, we maintained regular preaching and singing services at an elderly care facility. After we moved to Southeast Alaska where I pastored a small mission church; we also  had preaching and singing services at the local Hospital's
Elderly care facility. We tried to make a difference and God will bless you for having compassion on those who need mercy.
James 1:27 tells us that "
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction". What we do for others will bring glory to God and will make a difference in the lives of those we help along with giving us a sense of accomplishment for the cause of Christ.

4- Defending the gospel makes a difference.

(1)-  Know your position.
Philippians 1:17-
"Knowing that I am set for the defense of the gospel" which means that we should know what God said in his word and make every effort to support that truth. The Greek for defense is ap-ol-og-ee'-ah from which we get the word apologetics and that means a reasoned statement or argument for biblical truth.

(2)- Expand your knowledge.
(A)- Don't remain a baby christian for the rest of your life.
1 Cor. 3:1- "And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ".
In the early new testament church the Apostle Paul addressed the issue with many frustrations from people who remained babes in Christ when they should have been studying God's word and establishing a doctrinal position that they could use to teach others.
Jude 1:20- "But ye beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith". Which means to become mature Christians. God want's us to know where we stand and stand on what we know!

(3)-  Develop a sound doctrinal position.

Timothy 3:16- "All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable".
Scripture is profitable for 4 things:
(A)- Profitable for doctrine.
(B)- Profitable for reproof.
(C)- Profitable for correction.
(D)- Profitable for instruction.

What are the primary doctrines we need to remember?

(1)- The Doctrine of salvation.
Soterology is the doctrine of salvation and it has biblical guidelines.

(A)- The doctrine of salvation introduces us to the blood of Christ.
Revelation 5:9-
"And hast redeemed us to God by thy blood".

(B)- The doctrine of salvation is by God's grace joined with our faith.
Ephesians 2:8-
"by grace through faith are we saved".

(C)- The doctrine of salvation is by God's mercy without our goodness.
Titus 3:5-
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done,
but according to his mercy he saved us".

(2)- The Doctrine of Eternal Security.

1-Peter 1:5- "We are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time".
If it were kept by you and I it would be worthless because we don't have the power to keep it.

(3)- The Doctrine of Eschatology.
The second coming of Christ.

John 14:3- "He will come again to receive his own unto himself that where he is we will be also". This is the hope of every child of God and whether we be alive or in the grave at his coming, the results will be the same.

5- Our Christian Legacy Makes a Difference.

Jude 1:23-24.

(1)- Preaching Is part of our legacy.

(A)- Soul winning Is part of our legacy.
Jude 1:23- "pulling sinners out of the fire"
Soul winning is the answer.

(B)- Sanctification and separation from worldliness Is part of our legacy.
Jude 1:23- "Hating even the garments spotted by the flesh".

(2)- Our life style is part of our legacy
(A)- Being a Godly role model.

Jude 1:23- "hating the garments of sin".
Living a separated Christian life.

You and I might very well be the only gospel some sinner reads and your and my life might make a difference where people go when they die.

(3)- Believing the Christian's Destination is Sealed.
Jude 1:24- "Keep you from falling".

The Salvation Christ provided for us will keep us secure.
We need to let other people know we are God's child and we are convinced that heaven is going to be your eternal home. The Apostle Paul said in 1 Timothy 1:12- " I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day".

(4)- Our Legacy Includes a Joyful Promotion someday.
Knowing that Christ is the one who will present us faultless.
Jude 1:24-
"Present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy".
The Bible instructs us to watch for Christ imminent return and to keep our garments clean and our lamps trimmed and burning.
Matthew 25:6-7- "and at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps".

Are you making a difference ? Are you concerned for those who do not know the Lord in the free pardon of sin? Are you making an effort to reach them for Christ before it is too late? Are your garments spotted with sin? Are you truly born again; Not just a church member or a person who does a lot of good deeds but are you sure that you would go to heaven if you died this instant? If any of these questions leave you short of God’s directive; you need to do business with God today! If you are not saved; you need to repent of your sin and ask Christ to come into your heart to live forever. If you are not serving the Lord; you need to put your all on the altar and determine to serve him from this day forward! If you are not concerned for the unsaved as you should be, you need to get a burden for the lost and determine to do everything in your power to get them saved!
